About Platform Legal's Principal Solicitor
John Altmann
John is a commercial and charity law solicitor who is also an ordained Anglican minister, experienced board director, founder of a number of social enterprises and keen philanthropist.
He graduated in Law and Arts from Melbourne University in 1986 and worked in a large commercial legal firm and then as legal advisor to the Victorian Equal Opportunity Commission. He studied theology at Ridley College Melbourne in the early 1990’s and spent 15 years working for three different Melbourne Anglican churches. He started a charitable foundation in 2001 which he worked for between 2009-2013 creating social enterprises to help alleviate poverty in Tanzania.
In 2013 he returned to full-time legal practice with a vision of helping others to plan for generosity. He is passionate about innovative social and charitable enterprises and helping founders develop their organisations.
He is married to Cathy who is an English teacher and poet and has two grown up children and two dogs who love taking him walking around the local creek lands.
